Weird format for an awards night!

masthead1The Cream awards were held last night at The Jam House in Birmingham. Pretty good venue, but the format was terrible. I think it was done as a cost saving exercise, although it could have been because of the attendance being so low. Instead of a classic sit down awards with a meal and everyone in black tie, it was a stand-up in a bar with canapes. Which incidentally were very poor. The format felt cheap and I think devalued the awards themselves slightly. With everyone standing up to listen to the awards being announced, the urge to turn away and chat to your colleagues was very strong. I looked around and probably 60 – 70% of people were not paying attention. If we had been sitting down you would have seen the winners go up and collect and I think the formality would encourage applause. Last night there was embarrassingly little. We clapped all the gold winners out of respect, but the arrogance of many simply ignored it. A shameful way to behave I think. Let’s hope the next awards is better. Oh and yes we won two awards, a silver and a bronze!!!
